Minimally Invasive Surgery Kidney & Ureter
Surgery for the upper urinary tract can be performed in open or traditional methods or poor by minimally invasive “keyhole surgery” called laparoscopy, or when assistance is given with a robot, robotic assisted laparoscopic surgery.
This type of surgery has revolutionized treatment for problems with the upper urinary tract which include cancer of the kidney and ureter, as well as obstruction of the ureter. There are very few tumours that cannot be handled laparoscopically, and this offers patients a minimally-invasive alternative to traditional open surgery which involves more post-operative care and longer recovery times. It is very important to understand that the surgical approach is built around the particular condition, and not all patients are appropriate candidates for laparoscopic approaches to upper urinary tract surgery. Open surgery via traditional incisions can be indicated for the best outcome, and a complete discussion with your surgeon is required before any surgical approach is decided upon.
Minimally invasive partial nephrectomy is the standard of care for most small renal masses. This prevailing shift in the evidence has been endorsed by many national urologic and cancer associations. Multiple studies have shown that minimally invasive partial nephrectomies do not have worse complications, compared to open partial nephrectomies, and they offer faster convalescence and decreased postoperative pain

TREATMENTS & CONDITIONS
Kidney Stones
kidney stones are extremely common and can present with acute severe pain, kidney dysfunction, or severe infection. It is incredibly important to seek care for kidney stones to
Urinary Obstruction
Ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction occurs in the upper urinary. Most often, it is blocked at the renal pelvis. This is where the kidney attaches to one of the ureters
Kidney Cancer
Kidney cancer can arise at any stage in life, and when caught early, has an excellent prognosis. Surgery, often minimally invasive, is often necessary to remove the primary tumor.
Upper Tract Transitional Cell Carcinoma
Upper tract transitional cell carcinoma is a cancer that is derived from the lining of the inside of the kidney. It is different than kidney
